Veteran Story: Willie Jordan Jr.
For Willie Jordan Jr., a Vietnam era veteran of the United States Marine Corps, getting in and out of his own home had become a daily battle. Willie lives with drop foot, a condition that makes walking difficult, and after undergoing open-heart surgery, the steps to his porch turned from an inconvenience into a real barrier.
Today, that barrier is gone. Purple Heart Homes' Golden Corner Chapter, with grant support from The Home Depot Foundation, has completed a brand new modular home for Willie in Mountain Rest, South Carolina, giving him and his household a safe, stable, and accessible place to call home.
Willie served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era, earning the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged. Decades later, his community answered the call to serve him in return.
Bringing the new home to life was a true team effort. Team Depot, The Home Depot's associate volunteer force, rolled up their sleeves and gave their time and skill on site, while The Home Depot Foundation provided grant funding that helped make the project possible. Together with the Golden Corner Chapter, they saw the build through from the ground up.
The result is more than a new set of walls. For a veteran managing mobility challenges and recovering from major surgery, an accessible home means independence, safety, and peace of mind. The new home better supports Willie's mobility today and is built to meet his needs for years to come, benefiting both members of his household.
